Embroidery Digitizing
DST vs PES vs JEF: which embroidery format do you need?
A simple guide to common embroidery machine formats and when to request each one.

Quick answer
DST, PES, and JEF are embroidery file formats, not interchangeable image files. Request the format supported by your machine and software. DST is commonly associated with Tajima, PES with Brother, and JEF with Janome; always confirm compatibility for your exact model.
An image is not a stitch file
A JPG or PNG shows artwork, while an embroidery file describes how a machine should stitch it. Changing the file extension from an image to DST, PES, or JEF does not perform digitizing. A specialist must plan the stitches, sequence, trims, and thread changes before exporting the machine-readable output.
Check your machine requirements
Choose the output format using your machine manual or production software requirements. The brand association is a useful starting point, but supported formats and hoop limits can vary by model. Tell Aspire the machine make, model, hoop size, and final design dimensions when requesting a quote. Keep the stitch preview and any colour notes with the exported file.
Test the file before production
Aspire supplies multiple embroidery formats, including DST, PES, and JEF, with digitizing orders. Receiving several formats does not mean every file will fit every hoop or stitch identically in every setup. Open the appropriate file in your machine workflow, check the design size and thread sequence, and run a sample on the intended fabric before bulk production.
